Dear proud American,
Today I salute you for your efforts and contribution toward making Afghanistan a better place for me while I serve you and millions of other Americans. No matter how big or small of a contribution you made, I want you all to know how very much I appreciate what you have done.
My name is Staff Sargeant Barry Stephen T. I have served in the military for 12 years and made the sacrifice of 4 combat deployments. This deployment has been the hardest for me because I have 2 little boys (Payton who is 3 and Bently who is 2) at home that I miss very much. I have done several jobs in the military but I currently am a military police officer. The army has made me the person I am today and I have thought many times about what I would be doing now if I had never joined. I have seen things and gained life experiences that only about 1% of Americans have had the benefit of doing.
What you have done for me and the other personnel you have reached out to is also a great experience and though you may not get contacted on a daily basis and reminded of it, you make a huge difference. You have joined an elite league of people who care and I wanted to ensure you were reminded of it today.
I know that several of you receiving this letter are veterans or had close family members who are and were, a special thanks goes out to you. You all are true American heroes.
Thank you for being a great American,
SSG Barry T.
